Quantum illumination receiver using double homodyne detection

چکیده
A quantum receiver is an essential element of illumination (QI) which outperforms its classical counterpart, called classical-illumination (CI). However, there are only few proposals for realizable receiver, exploits nonlinear effects leading to increasing the complexity setups. To compensate this, in this article, we design a with linear optical elements Gaussian QI. Rather than exploiting effect, our consists 50:50 beam splitter and homodyne detection. Using double detection after splitter, analyze performance QI different regimes target reflectivity, source power, noise level. We show that has better signal-to-noise ratio more robust against existing simple-structured receivers.

Target Detection through Quantum Illumination
Classical target detection can suffer large error probabilities in noisy and lossy environments when noise photons are mistaken for signal photons reflected from an object. It has been shown theoretically that the correlation between entangled photons can be used to better discriminate between the signal photons reflected by an object and noise photons, thus reducing the probability of error [1...
متن کاملSelf-homodyne RF-optical LiNbO3 microdisk receiver
A novel RF-optical receiver architecture based on nonlinear optical modulation in a LiNbO3 microdisk modulator is presented. This is the first RF-optical receiver without high-speed electronic components for transmitted carrier links. We demonstrate receiver operation by demodulating 50 Mb/s digital data from a 8.7 GHz carrier frequency. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
متن کاملHomodyne detection for measuring internal quantum correlations of optical pulses
A new method is described for determining the quantum correlations at different times in optical pulses by using balanced homodyne detection. The signal pulse and sequences of ultrashort test pulses are superimposed, where for chosen distances between the test pulses their relative phases and intensities are varied from measurement to measurement. The correlation statistics of the signal pulse ...
متن کاملQuantum control of atomic systems by homodyne detection and feedback
We investigate the possibilities of preserving and manipulating the coherence of atomic two-level systems by ideal projective homodyne detection and feedback. For this purpose, the photon emission process is described on time scales much shorter than the lifetime of the excited state using a model based on WignerWeisskopf theory. The backaction of this emission process is analytically described...
متن کاملQuantum random number generator based on homodyne detection
The need to generate random numbers arises in many scientific and engineering disciplines. There are many types of random number generators with different entropy sources. Historically, two approaches for random number generation have been developed. According to the first method, random numbers can be generated algorithmically, but the resulting sequences in that case are pseudorandom and not ...
